Rewiring
Rewiring on the Wirral
Whole houses and single circuits. On an older Wirral house the cable is the easy part and getting it there is the job.
- We look before we price
- In writing, itemised
- We say what is not ours
Rewiring
What a rewire actually involves
A rewire replaces the cable, the accessories and usually the board throughout a property, and lays the circuits out for how the house is used now rather than how it was used when it was first wired. That usually means more circuits, more sockets, dedicated supplies for the things that need them, and lighting arranged for the rooms as they are.
The electrical design is rarely the difficult part. What decides the disruption, the duration and a large part of the cost is how cable gets from the board to where it is needed. A modern house with cavity walls, stud partitions and a usable loft is comparatively straightforward. A solid walled Victorian villa with lath and plaster ceilings and no cavities means chasing masonry, lifting floors and working around original detail.
Which is why the making good has to be settled in writing before anything starts. Cable in, capping fitted and chases filled is one standard. Plastered and ready to decorate is another. Decorated is a third. All three are legitimate and they are very different prices, and assuming rather than agreeing is the commonest source of a bad ending to an otherwise good job. Often asked about alongside consumer units, sockets and lighting and car charger installation.
Talk about the rewireCavities and loft access, or chased masonry and lifted floors. This, not the circuit design, is what decides the week.
Agreed in writing before anybody starts. Filled, plastered or decorated are three different jobs.
A full rewire is disruptive. Phasing it keeps the house liveable and spreads the cost, at some extra total.
Done across Birkenhead, Bebington, Heswall, and everywhere else on the peninsula.

What this job looks like
The slots below are placeholders. The pictures elsewhere on this site are example images of the kind of work described and they are not photographs of our own jobs. Nothing here is borrowed from anybody else's. Our own photographs go in as jobs are finished and customers are happy for us to use them.

Why people use us
Living through it
A full rewire means rooms out of use in sequence and the power off for periods, and it is worth planning rather than enduring.
- The existing installation looked at before anything is quoted
- Circuit layout planned for how the house is used now
- Making good standard agreed in writing
- Phasing offered where living through it in one go is not realistic
Frequently asked questions
Rewiring: the questions people ask
The ones that come up most. If yours is not here, ring and ask.
How long does a rewire take?
It depends far more on the construction than the floor area. Cavity walls and loft access make it quicker; solid walls and lath ceilings make it considerably slower. A realistic duration comes after somebody has looked, not before.
Do I have to move out?
Not usually, and plenty of people do. It is disruptive: rooms come out of use in sequence, there is dust from chasing, and the power is off for periods. Phasing it room by room keeps the house usable at some extra total cost.
Will my walls be left ready to decorate?
Only if that is what is agreed. Filled chases and plastered chases are different jobs at different prices. It goes in writing at the quote, because it is the single most common thing people assume differently about.
Can I just rewire upstairs?
Sometimes, and it depends what it joins onto. Partial work on an installation nobody has a full picture of starts by establishing what is there, which is why the first visit is a look rather than a measurement.
Done across Birkenhead, Bebington, Heswall, and everywhere else on the peninsula.
Send a photo of the consumer unit
One picture of the board and one of the inside of a socket front tells us more than the age of the house does.
About Wirral Electrics
Wirral Electrics is not taking bookings yet. The pages here are finished and the information on them is accurate, and the brand will start taking work when the labour behind it is in place. What that means, and what this site deliberately does not claim.

Tell us what the job is and roughly how old the house is. A photograph of the consumer unit and of the inside of a socket front answers more than any description.
