Electric showers on the Wirral
An electric shower is one of the largest loads in a house, so the work is really about the circuit rather than the unit on the wall.

Electric showers
The circuit, not the shower
An electric shower heats water as it flows, which makes it one of the biggest single loads in a domestic installation. It needs its own circuit run from the board, in a cable sized for the particular shower and the length of the run, with its own protection and an isolating switch outside the bathroom or a ceiling pull cord inside it.
That means the shower you choose and the installation are connected decisions. A more powerful unit needs a larger cable and more capacity behind it, and it is entirely possible to buy a shower your installation cannot support. Choosing the unit after somebody has looked at the board and the likely cable route is the right order, and it is the opposite of what most people do.
The plumbing side is a different trade. We do the circuit, the isolation and the electrical connection; the water supply, the fixing and the pipework are a plumber's work. On a swap of like for like the two overlap very little, and on a new installation they need coordinating, which is worth arranging rather than hoping. Often asked about alongside extractor fans, landlord electrical checks and electrical prices.
Talk about the showerCable sized for that shower and that run length. Not a spur off anything.
A more powerful unit needs more cable and more capacity, and it is possible to buy one the installation cannot support.
We do the circuit and the connection. The water side is a plumber's and we will say so.
Done across Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bebington, and everywhere else on the peninsula.

What this job looks like
The slots below are placeholders. The pictures elsewhere on this site are example images of the kind of work described and they are not photographs of our own jobs. Nothing here is borrowed from anybody else's. Our own photographs go in as jobs are finished and customers are happy for us to use them.
Why people use us
Replacement or new
Like for like on an existing circuit is a short job. A new shower where there was none is a new circuit and a different one.
- The board checked for capacity and a spare way first
- Cable sized for the unit and the run, not to a rule of thumb
- Isolation fitted correctly for a bathroom
- The plumbing side identified as a separate trade
Frequently asked questions
Electric showers: the questions people ask
The ones that come up most. If yours is not here, ring and ask.
Can I replace my shower with a more powerful one?
Sometimes, and not always. A more powerful unit draws more, which can mean a larger cable and more capacity than the existing circuit has. It is worth checking before buying rather than after.
Can the shower run off the existing socket circuit?
No. An electric shower needs its own circuit from the board because of the load. Anything else is the wrong answer regardless of how convenient it looks.
Do you do the plumbing too?
No, that is a plumber's work, and we would rather say so than improvise. On a new installation the two need coordinating and it is worth arranging that up front.
How long does it take?
A like for like swap on a sound existing circuit is a short job. A new shower where there was none means a new circuit run from the board, which depends entirely on the route between the board and the bathroom.

About Wirral Electrics
Wirral Electrics is not taking bookings yet. The pages here are finished and the information on them is accurate, and the brand will start taking work when the labour behind it is in place. What that means, and what this site deliberately does not claim.
